Anurag Kashyap is an Indian film director, writer, actor, and producer who is known for his works in Bollywood movies. For his contributions in Movies, the government of France awarded him the title “Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) in the year 2013. Anurag Kashyap initially started writing TV Series. He then got a chance to be a co-writer for the movie “Satya (1998)” along with Ram Gopal Varma. Anurag Kashyap was born on 10 September 1972 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Sri Prakash Singh who is a retired Chief Engineer of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. His father had worked in Obra Thermal Power Station which is located in Sonbhadra district near Varanasi. He did his early schoolings at Green School Dehradun and then moved to Scindia School in Gwalior.
He had a desire to become a scientist from a very young age. He then moved to Delhi and enrolled himself in Zoology course at Hans Raj College (University of Delhi) from where he got graduated in the year 1993. He attended the International Film Festival held in New Delhi and saw more than 55 films in just 2 days. With this experience, he moved to Mumbai in the year 1993 with just Rupees 5000 in his pocket.
After struggling for 2 years, Anurag met Shivam Nair through a friend and he saw the movie Taxi Driver (1976) at Nair’s residence which inspired him to write something. There was a TV series going on called “Auto Narayan” for which Anurag rewrote a portion of the script and got some credit as well. Anurag wrote the screenplay for the movie “Jayate” but it failed to have a theatrical release. In the year 1998, Manoj Bajpayee introduced him to Ram Gopal Varma and they jointly wrote the script for the movie “Satya”.
He then worked as the co-writer for the movie Kaun (1999) and dialogue writer for the movie Shool (1999). His directional debut was through the movie “Paanch” which didn’t hit the theatres due to many issues. The next film was Black Friday (2007) which was based on the Bombay Bomb Blast in the year 1993. Bombay high court put a stay on the movie and after many petitions, the movie got released after 2 years. Apart from directing and writing, he has also produced movies and acted in movies as well.

Anurag Kashyap married the film editor Aarti Bajaj and they have a daughter as well. Things didn’t go well between the two and they got divorced in the year 2009. Anurag then married the actress Kalki Koechlin and got divorced in May 2015 at the Bandra Family court in Mumbai.
