At a distance of seven km from Chennai Central Railway Station (situated in Vaikuntapuram, lower than 1 Km from native Kodambakkam Railway Station), Valluvar Kottam is a monument constructed to pay homage to Tamil Poet Saint Thiruvalluvar.
Inaugurated in 1976, the memorial is the type of 101-feet excessive temple chariot and is the reproduction of the temple chariot in Thiruvarur. A 33m tall life-size statue of the saint has been put in within the chariot. One other superb attribute of the auditorium is that it isn’t supported by a single pillar and stands with none help.
The 133 chapters of his well-known work Thirukkural have been depicted in bas-relief within the entrance corridor corridors of the chariot. All of the 1330 verses of the poet’s epic are depicted on the granite pillars, which encompass the auditorium. The auditorium at Valluvar Kottam is alleged to be the most important in Asia and might accommodate about 4000 individuals.
