At a distance of seven Kms from Coimbatore Railway Station, Patteeswarar Temple positioned in Perur (on the Siruvani highway) is the oldest temple in Coimbatore area.

Constructed by the King Karikala Cholan, this temple is devoted to Lord Siva. Located on the banks of Noyyal River, the idol right here is believed to be a Swayambu Lingam (self manifested). A number of rulers of Chola, Hoysala and Vijayanagara dynasty contributed to the event of the temple. The best attraction of the temple is the ‘Kanaka Saba’ or the golden corridor which is adorned by a gold plated statue of Nataraja bestowing blessings upon the 2 sages – Gowmuni and Pattimuni.

The carved out sculptures on gopurams and pillars of the temple display the distinctiveness of Dravidian structure. The Panguni Uthiram competition is well known in full spirit within the month of March.
